Really nice gite in the heart of the Dordogne excellently located for touristy stuff. Hot air balloons soaring overhead as you laze by the pool with the silence only broken by the crickets (and a once a day military jet flying low over - more exciting than inconvenient !). The gite is very well equipped with good quality kitchen items, smart satellite UK TV, and surprisingly good stable wifi. Its down a little lane which ensures peace and quiet but it makes for a 5 or 6 mile drive down the windy road to the boulangerie and other amenties. The downstairs double bedroom + twin room + bathroom arrangement is mirrored upstairs meaning 8 people are easily accommodated. The gite is very homely and everything worked fine. I have no hesitation in recommending Chene Bois to others.

We have had a fabulous week at Chene Bois. The house is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. A real home from home. The pool is superbly clean with the 8 sun loungers making it an ideal place to relax and cool down. Most of our evening meals were outside on the patio under a gazebo with comfortable seating for 8. The bbq was also put to good use on more than one occasion.
The surrounding area is stunning and offers chateaux visits, beautiful villages and canoeing on the river. A visit to Sarlat market is also a must.
Will definitely be back.

We stayed at Chene Bois between 24th August and 31st August 2019. The journey down from Calais is actually very pleasant and straight forward and the directions provided were spot on in terms of finding the property. The property is situated away from the road and has the most fantastic views of the local area. Our first impressions were how fantastically laid out the property is with ample parking, a swimming pool that is gated off for safety and enough space for 8 people.
The swimming pool was maintained to a top level and the pool cover kept it at a nice warm temperature. The house was clean and 99% of what you could possibly need for a stay away was supplied including washing materials, kitchen supplies and even towels etc which is not usually supplied.
The local villages and towns had a lot to offer and everything is very reasonably priced depending on what you want to do. The locals are friendly and there is enough choice in terms of whether you want a relaxing holiday or even something a bit more adventurous. I cannot recommend highly enough Chene Bois and will most definitely return for another holiday.

We had a lovely stay at Chene Bois. The house is really comfortable with everything you could possibly need and is situated next to some wonderful tourist attractions. We visited the castles at Castelnau and Beynac, the picturesque, medieval towns of Sarlat and Domme and had a great day canoeing on the Dordogne. Everything no more than a twenty minute drive away from the house. We also spent some lazy afternoons relaxing by the superb swimming pool and in the garden, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. A real home from home!

We spent an amazing 2 weeks at Chene Bois and we're extremely happy with the villa. It had everything we could have needed for our stay. The villa was exactly as described in the advert and was even more stunning than the pictures showed. The outdoor seating under the gazebo had a stunning view over the valley, very peaceful in the mornings to sit with a cup of tea and relax! The pool was used everyday and when the cover is left on was quite warm to get into. Fans were provided in every room and came in very handy as the temperature was usually around 30 degrees. The garden area around the pool gave the kids lots of space to play football and badminton and just run around having fun exploring. The local town has an amazing bakery that sells the most beautiful cakes, and has a little bar, shop and butchers also, which was great to get little bits from without having to travel to the supermarket. The canoeing along the river Dordogne is a must and the route from vitrac to Beynac has some stunning towns and views along the way. We also saw lots of hot air balloons flying over the villa and even had some fighter jets zoom past which the kids were amazed at! The town of Domme is a lovely day out to walk around the town and visit the caves and is only half an hour drive away. La-Roque-Gageac has some lovely shops and restaurants where you can walk along the Dordogne River. We will definitely be visiting again and thanks for an amazing holiday that we will never forget!

We had a fantastic time at Chene Bois. The house was big, bright and comfortable, and the pool was superb - we used it every day. The location was ideal, with some of the best sights in the Dordogne all within easy reach. There is no harsher critic than our teenage daughter - and she declared it "the perfect holiday".

Chene Bois is a beautiful well equipped gite in the heart of the Dordogne with wonderful views across the valley from the patio. It is a haven of peace and tranquility where the only sounds to be heard are bird song and crickets. We were also lucky to see a deer by the pool at dusk one evening. There is no light pollution so masses of stars can be seen in the night sky. The gite is ideally situated for visiting the major sites in the area with Domme, Beynac, Castelnaud, Marqueyssac, Milland and Sarlat all close by. During our stay temperatures reached more than 30 degrees so we took full advantage of the lovely well maintained pool. Two weeks just not long enough. Thank you for making our holiday truly memorable.

We verbleven in het huis met vrienden en 2 kleine kinderen. Alles was voorzien. Fam. Van Nieuwenhuyse
Thank you Steven and Lieve. Apologies but below is, I'm sure, a poor Google translation for our english speaking guests.
" We stayed in the house with friends and 2 little children. Everything was provided. Adequate towels, clean linens, cleaning products, a dining chair for our daughter, a travel cot, more than in the description. The pool was pleasantly warm and well maintained. But the great asset of this house is its location. Particularly quiet, and near some of the most beautiful villages of France! The communication with the owners was particularly smooth! We had a successful vacation! Fam. Van Nieuwenhuyse"
We look forward to welcoming you back at any time. Thanks, Tim

We had a very relaxed and chilled fortnight at this charming holiday home set right in the middle of the Dordogne countryside, our only neighbours being the local wildlife and the only noise heard throughout the stay was from the birds in the woods at rear of the property, PERFECT .The swimming pool was spotlessly clean and with the solar cover used nightly was like swimming in a warm bath, albeit on a much larger scale, and was well used, both when having pool days or returning from local excursions. We have stayed in many rented properties throughout Europe over the years and according to Kay this was the best equipped kitchen thus far, with everything she needed at hand. The property is actually well situated for trips to all the local attractions and with the Dordogne river being only a five minute drive its ideal for walks or canoe trips along the wonderful scenic river. Sarlat is also only a short drive away, so there were plenty of evenings spent strolling around this wonderful old town enjoying a relaxing drink or meal.So thanks for allowing us to enjoy a Perfect retreat for a relaxing break far away from the maddening crowds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PS- we nearly forgot the complimentary bottles of wine which were well received after the long drive down from the channel tunnel. Thanks again

We spent 2 relaxing weeks at Chene Bois in September 2016. It is located in a peaceful rural location of The Dordogne region in France in large grounds with a private pool. The property was very clean and well maintained. It is a 10 minute drive to Castlenaud, 20 minutes from Sarlat and there are many tourist sites within a short drive including Beynac, Domme, La Roque Gageac and the River Dordogne itself. The property is beautifully appointed with generous equipment and is spacious enough to accommodate 8 people in 2 double rooms, 2 twin rooms and with 2 bathrooms (one with bath, one with shower) There is an outdoor covered Gazebo with a table that seats 8. The pool has a cover that keeps the heat in at night and was a real bonus on the hot days there. There are great walks around this area and one of the Radonnee walks goes right past this property - see walk 13 in the pack of walks in the property. We hope to return to this property again. We have visited the dordogne a few times and other regions of France and this is the best property we have stayed in in all that time. We would recommend visits to Beynac and Castlenaud castles, Rouffignac, Font de Gaume prehistoric caves and Grotte de Padirac cave, but not during French lunch time (12;30 to 14;00 usually) Also a canoe trip on the Dordogne is a must, 'Canoes Loisirs' at nearby Vitrac Port is a company we have used several times. Also a visit to Sarlat market on Saturday or Wednesday is a must. Thank you to the owners also for dealing with a minor issue during our stay with internet access, prompt email replies and a phone call to me sorted the issue.
We are delighted that you had a lovely stay at Chene Bois and thank you for your comments. The house does lend itself superbly to being a centrally located, very comfortable base from which to explore the many local attractions and sights this stunning region of France has to offer. You are, of course, welcome back at any time.

Chene Bois is a lovely, well equipped, spacious house in a peaceful location. We were 2 families both with 2 children, so having the bedrooms split over the two floors was really good. The pool is well maintained and very welcoming in the hot weather! The pool is away from the house, but this was one of the reasons for choosing this property. The house has a lovely terrace area, which gives much needed shade when having lunch. Having English tv (sky) was great, as we were able to watch the Olympics. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and also has a BBQ outside. We went canoeing on the Dordogne, which is a lovely day out. Other nearby attractions include many chateaux's and a bit further out are the caves at Padirac. I did have a few queries/questions prior to our arrival, which Tim answered very promptly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely recommend it.
We are delighted that you loved our house and the beautiful Dordogne region. Two of the features that you mention, the pool being away from the house and the split accommodation, were attractive to us when we bought the house ten years ago. The fully fenced off pool away from the house gives peace of mind to those who have young children or non-swimmers in their group. Additionally, many people holiday as two families or groups so the split sleeping accommodation caters well for this. You are, of course, welcome back to Chene Bois at any time

Really comfortable, clean property in a peaceful location and not too far from many tourist sights (e.g. Sarlat, canoeing, chateaux). We particularly enjoyed walking to Chateau des Millandes one afternoon via some quiet lanes and doing the family-friendly cycle route from Castelnaud. I liked that there are two bedrooms on each floor with a bathroom each. Wifi and being able to watch the Olympics on the BBC was a big bonus. Pool was great size - warm enough during the hot weather we enjoyed. It really does make a fantastic base for exploring Perigord Noir and has everything you need for a happy stay.
Thanks for your comments Vicky. We're delighted that you loved our house and had a great holiday. It certainly is a fabulous place to explore the stunning Dordogne scenery.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Chene Bois in the future.

We had a lovely stay at Chene Bois with the family. The house is clean with plenty of room and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. All of the party very much enjoyed the private swimming pool which is very well maintained. The solar cover helped to keep the water warmer which was great.
The house, and very large garden, is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Dordogne area with visiting various caves and castles a must. The town of Sarlat is not too far away with a bustling market and striking architecture. Canoeing on the river was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
A perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil and beautiful scenery. We would thoroughly recommend staying at Chene Bois and would definitely consider returning in the future.

This villa is the most perfect place for a quiet and relaxing holiday. What lovely gesture on arrival two complimentary bottles of wine. The villa was very clean and it was very handy having Wi-Fi so we could find out good restaurants and places to visit. The views from all angles of the villa of the woodland and wildlife was beautiful. This is also a great location for cycling. Robert the maintenance gentleman was really helpful when coming to book a taxi for us. I would highly recommend this property.
